Dear Friends,

I heartily wish all of you well.

On Aug. 31st, The Hulbert Memorial Society held the memorial service for Dr. Hulbert upon his 74th passing anniversary.

I must say the service was very successful by both quality and quantity with more than 300 participants.

There were many prominent figures from independence societies and academic institutes. Distinguished guests from Korean Government

and the National Assembly of Korea also attended as per the attached pamphlet for the service.

From the U.S. Embassy, Robert Post, Minister-Counselor for Public Diplomacy attended. Jeffrey Jones, ex-AMCHAM Chairman, Steve Shields, President of RAS Korea Branch,

Robert Neff, historian, also attended.

Especially HyungWon Kang, former LA Times reporter who received Pulitzer Prize twice, and is at present intrigued by the accomplishments of Dr. Hulbert, attended.

SungLim Kim, professor of Dartmouth College, and Matthew Roos, Nephew of Bruce Hulbert, grandson of Dr. Hulbert, from California also attended.

At this memorial service the Society published a special memorial edition titled <Homer B. Hulbert's 50 Year Korean Independence Movement in Sight>, a pictorial book.

This edition received excellent reaction from scholars after the service.

Also I issued Special Statement to the government and the public to pay more attention to foreign independence patriots.

Particularly, I urged Korean scholars to remember Dr. Hulbert's envoy mission in 1905 to President Roosevelt of the U.S.

I demanded the Hulbert's mission as the Envoy of then Korean Emperor Gojong to be recorded properly in Korean annals.

TaeJin Lee, professor emeritus of Seoul National University, fully supported my insistence.

The society also issued Special Resolution together with VANK(Voluntary Agency Network Korea) to pursue the following:

1. Elevate Dr. Hulbert's decoration for Korean independence movement to the highest grade.

2. Establish memorial hall, statue, and stone marking the birth at his birth place, all in the U.S.

3. Do best to recover Emperor Gojong's deposit funds, which was stolen by Japan, for which Dr. Hulbert worked for 40 years.

The service was live streamed via You-tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgUpM73o6dg&ab_channel=MediaHanul

PDF files of the pamphlet and special edition for the memorial service are attached for your reference.

You can see from the pamphlet remarks from the Speaker of Korean National Assembly and U.S. Ambassador to Korea.

Also a number of news coverage on the memorial service are attached below.

Thanks to you all for your support to The Hulbert Memorial Society.

With warm regards,

Kim DongJin(DJ), Chairman, The Hulbert Memorial Society
